Tributes Flood In for David - By Web Site Editor

The Scottish FA is in mourning today following the death of former President David Will CBE.

Mr Will was also a former Vice President of the world governing body FIFA and was involved in football both here in Scotland and around the world for over three decades.

Scottish FA Chief Executive Gordon Smith said:

"This news has absolutely devastated everyone here at the Scottish FA and, I am sure, throughout the football world.

"David was a giant of the game. His knowledge and love for football saw him rise from a small town club to the Vice Presidency of FIFA. He was one of the most humble yet influential figures in the game and he played his part in taking football around the world.

"All of our thoughts and prayers are with David's family and friends at this terrible time. We have lost a friend today - and football has lost one of its most committed and talented sons."

In a letter to the Scottish FA, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said:

"Thanks to his wisdom, diplomacy and integrity, David made an extraordinary contribution to our game in his life. His great warmth, kindness and humour made him and extremely popular figure who will live long in the memory of all who had the good fortune to meet him."

Former Scottish FA Secretary Ernie Walker said:

"David Will was quite simply the best ambassador abroad that Scottish football ever had. He was an outstanding legislator and a man of the highest moral principles.

"On a personal level, he was my best friend for 40 years and will be terribly missed."

Former National Manager Andy Roxburgh, now UEFA's Technical Director said:

"I have known and worked with David Will for nearly 30 years - the first time was when he led our U20 delegation to the FIFA World Cup in Mexico in 1983. He was an intelligent and passionate man who represented Scotland with great distinction in his role as a football official on the World stage.

"David loved the game and he loved Scotland and all of us who had the privilege of working along side him will never forget his wonderful human qualities of sincerity, dignity and humour.

"Like many here at UEFA, my thoughts today are with his wife Margaret, and his two daughters."
