Brechin City v Dundee United - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

It's the last Tayside derby of the season this evening as Dundee United make the short trip along the A90 to Glebe Park.

City will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance at the weekend against a United side that have strengthened their promotion credentials with back to back wins against Champions St Mirren and Falkirk at Tannadice.

TEAM NEWS
Manager Darren Dods reports no fresh injury worries as captain Paul McLean comes back into contention after completing his 2 match ban against Dunfermline on Saturday. Gary Fusco, however is still struggling with injury and may miss out with the long term absentees of Jackson, McGeever and Storie.

MATCH OFFICIALS
Craig Charleston has been appointed as the match referee - he will be assisted by Graham McNeillie and Iain Snedden. Charleston has previously taken charge of three City games this season, including the 1-0 defeat at home to Queen of the South in October in which he sent off City winger Ally Love late on.

ADMISSION INFORMATION
Supporters are advised that the match is NOT segregated. Usual league prices apply at £15 for adults, £8 concessions and £18 for parent and child.

The City Club bar situated within the David Will Stand will be open free of charge (over 18's only) an hour before kick off and following the game.

There will be a bucket collection outside of the ground on behalf of Brechin Community Penguin / Maggie's Appeal.

SPONSORSHIP & HOSPITALITY
Match sponsors are Interwell of Aberdeen, whilst the Ball Sponsor is Lennie Johnson of Lerwick. Many thanks for supporting the club in this way.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

19 August 2017 - Dundee United 1-0 Brechin City
City made the short journey to the City of Discovery in August to face the Tangerines in what was the first competitive match between the sides for over 30 years. The hosts found it increasingly difficult to break down a City side who defended valiantly, but also had chances of their own at the other end. City’s resolve was finally broken ten minutes from time when a deflected Scott McDonald effort flew over the despairing arm of Graeme Smith and into the net.

25 November 2017 - Brechin City 1-1 Dundee United
A bumper crowd of 2,627 packed into Glebe Park for this bottom v top clash, owing largely to a healthy contingent of United fans with renewed optimism under recently appointed Manager Csaba Laszlo. The visitors dominated the first half and took a deserved lead shortly before the half hour mark through that man again, Scott McDonald. The tables turned in the second half as City outplayed their full time counterparts and levelled through a Sean Crighton header shortly after the break. City came close on numerous occasions to grab a famous win, but the United rearguard held firm.

02 January 2018 - Dundee United 4-1 Brechin City
There wasn’t much between the sides in the first two meetings this season, however this one was certainly more one sided. The game got off to the perfect start for Laszlo’s men as they went 2-0 up after just 7 minutes courtesy of goals from Scott McDonald and Sam Stanton. At the start of the second half McDonald grabbed his second before James Keatings made it 4 from the spot. United were reduced to 10 men shortly before the hour mark when Paul McMullan received a second yellow for simulation and although Jordan Sinclair reduced the deficit from the spot, it proved to be no more than a consolation for City.
