Dunfermline Athletic v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Brechin City travel to face Dunfermline Athletic at East Park tomorrow for the fourth and final meeting between the sides this season.

Darren Dods and his players now have just three games remaining to get the win that has evaded them all season, but they know they will have to be at the top of their game to get a positive outcome against Allan Johnston's promotion-chasing side.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite an improved performance from recent weeks, City lost out narrowly to league leaders St Mirren last weekend in front of a bumper crowd at Glebe Park. An early goal from Kyle Magennis proved to be the difference between the sides on the day.

Dunfermline meanwhile recorded a crucial 2-1 win at Falkirk to continue their push for the promotion playoffs. On target for the Pars were Kallum Higginbotham and Fraser Aird.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Tomorrow's opponents have come out on top in all three matches between the sides this season. Back in September, a Pars side brimming with confidence continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Glebe Park. On target that afternoon was Lee Ashcroft, Declan McManus and Nicky Clark.

In the reverse fixture at East End Park two days before Christmas, it wasn’t so one sided as City gave the Pars a run for their money. Goals from Declan McManus and ex-City loanee Michael Paton set the home side on their way to victory but a wonder strike from Connor McLennan on the hour mark ensured a nervy finish for the hosts.

In the most recent meeting between the sides, the Pars ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in a rescheduled midweek fixture at Glebe Park last month. Striker Nicky Clark put City to the sword with a hat-trick.

City’s recent record against the Pars doesn’t make good reading, with the Fifers winning the last eight matches between the sides. The last time City emerged victorious from this fixture was a 3-0 win at Glebe Park at the tail end of a thoroughly disappointing 2014/15 season for the Pars who finished in a lowly 7th position in League One. Dunfermline failed to defeat Brechin that season as City recorded two wins and two draws against a side that greatly underachieved.

TEAM NEWS
City captain Paul McLean serves the second of his 2 game suspension after his appeal was rejected, however Sean Crighton comes back into contention having served his ban. Gary Fusco is doubtful after coming off injured against St Mirren last weekend. Long term absentees Andy Jackson, Ryan McGeever and Craig Storie continue to miss out through injury.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee for the match will be John McKendrick, assisted by Brian Templeton and David Dunne. McKendrick has previously officiated two City games this season - both at Glebe Park - those being the 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline in September and the hard-fought 1-1 draw against Morton in January.
