Brechin City v St Mirren - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City welcome St Mirren to Glebe Park tomorrow with the Paisley men having their first opportunity to clinch the Championship title against Darren Dods side.

To do so, the Buddies will require to pick up 3 points against City who are still without a win, but will also require 2nd placed Livingston to drop points at home to Morton.

TEAM NEWS
News breaking from Hampden Park is that Brechin City's appeal against Paul McLean's red card at Falkirk has not been upheld by the Judicial Panel. This means that the club captain will be unable to play against St Mirren at Glebe Park tomorrow. Also missing is Sean Crighton who will serve the second of his 2 game ban for his own red card at Falkirk last weekend.

There are no new injury concerns following the midweek defeat at Inverness CT, although Darren Dods will doubtless look to freshen up with changes across the team where he can. Livingston loanee Dylan Mackin could come back into contention after missing the last 2 games, with the long term injury trio of McGeever, Jackson and Storie continuing to watch from the sidelines.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The man in the middle will be David Munro, assisted by Anthony Cooper and Will Smith. Munro takes charge of a City game for the first time this season.

ADMISSION INFORMATION
Usual admission prices apply at £15 for adults, £8 concessions and £18 for parent and child (an extra £2 per additional child applies)

LAST TIME OUT
City slipped to another disappointing defeat midweek, this time going down 4-0 to Inverness CT in the Highlands.

St Mirren meanwhile have had a full week to prepare for the game, having also played Inverness up north last Saturday. The Buddies were cruising at 2-0 up however two late goals for the Caley Jags earned them a point against the league leaders.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Despite St Mirren running away with the league title, coupled with City’s troubles at the bottom of the table, the three matches between the sides have been incredibly tight. In fact, the City players could consider themselves unfortunate not to take any points off the Buddies this campaign.

In September, City travelled to Paisley and found themselves a goal down after just 14 minutes when Cammy Smith netted, however a stooping header from ex-Saint Kalvin Orsi had the sides level at the break. For periods of the second half, City looked the most likely to net a winner however it was Dale Hilson who pounced 12 minutes from time to earn all three points for the home side.

In the reverse fixture at Glebe Park in December, St Mirren edged City out again by the same 2-1 scoreline. Again the Buddies took the lead through top scorer Gavin Reilly however they were pegged back by an Isaac Layne goal seven minutes later. Despite another positive performance from the Reds, they were undone by a penalty converted by Cammy Smith midway through the second half.

In the most recent clash at the Paisley 2021 Stadium in February, St Mirren again emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to an early free kick from Kyle Magennis which rebounded off the back of keeper Paddy O’Neil and into the net. Shortly after. the home side could have doubled their advantage when they were awarded a penalty however O’Neil made a great save down low to deny Ian McShane’s spot kick. A nervy St Mirren side saw the game out to go a mammoth 11 points clear at the top of the division.
