Falkirk v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

It’s the battle of the basement boys as bottom placed City take on the 9th placed Bairns at the Falkirk Stadium tomorrow.

Falkirk were widely tipped as the most likely side to challenge Dundee United for the title at the start of the season however it hasn’t quite worked out for the Bairns despite a managerial switch in October, with ex Dundee manager Paul Hartley replacing Peter Houston. They currently sit 9 points adrift of automatic safety, albeit with a game in hand.

Falkirk will see this fixture as an ideal chance to get their season up and running however City are desperate to grab their first league win of the season and go into the game off the back of a hugely encouraging performance against St Mirren last week.

The Bairns are currently on a poor run of form which has seen them go without a league win since the end of September where they defeated Morton at Cappielow. Since then they have recorded 3 draws and 4 defeats.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The clubs meet for the third time this season - City were well beaten by three goals to nil in the League Cup fixture however they put in an excellent performance to gain a point in the league match just over a month later. Finn Graham’s second half goal cancelled out an early opener from Alex Harris.

You have to go back as far as August 2003 for the last time City emerged victorious against the Bairns – with City stalwart Charlie King netting the winner in a Challenge Cup tie at the Glebe.

TEAM NEWS
Darren Dods’ selection problems are easing with the news that James Dale returns from suspension whilst loanee Connor McLennan is available after recovering from injury. Willie Dyer is rated as 50/50 so that leaves long term injury victim Ryan McGeever as the only definate absentee for City.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee tomorrow will be Mat Northcroft, assisted by Andrew McWilliam and George King. Northcroft has already officiated one City game this season in the 4-0 defeat to Inverness CT at Glebe Park in August.

SUPPORTERS TRAVEL
For any City fans wishing to travel to the game, the Brechin City Supporters Club will be running a bus to Falkirk which will leave St Ninians Square at 10:30am. If you would like to book your seat, please contact Derek on 07934903090 (calls after 6pm or text anytime).
