Brechin City v Dumbarton: Match Preview - By Grant Hood

The ‘Sons of the Rock’ visit Glebe Park on league business for the first time since March 2012 as Stevie Aitken brings his Dumbarton side to town to face a Brechin City side desperately keen to get a first win of the season.

The lengthy absence is simply explained by the visitors 5-year tenure in Scottish football’s second tier and, with home advantage, Darren Dods and his team must look upon this as an opportunity to secure a first 3-point haul of the season.

City were well on the way to securing that in the reverse fixture a few weeks ago before 2 goals in the final 10 minutes were enough to ensure that The Glebe Park side returned pointless having led from an early Jordan Sinclair goal. The Sons’ form since then has seen a win, a draw and 3 defeats in the 5 games since – whilst City have lost all 5 subsequent games, 4 of them by one goal.

The squad news from the City camp sees long term injury victims Andy Jackson and Ryan McGeever miss out – along with Ally Love who is serving the second of a 2-game ban following his late ordering off at the previous home game against Queen of the South.

Of significance during last week’s defeat to high-flying Livingston was the return to action of Euan Smith, and although he will be expected to be named amongst the substitutes, City fans shouldn’t be surprised if he sees more game time.

The visitors report that defender Craig Barr is suspended after two yellow cards against Dundee United last weekend, and a lengthy injury list which includes Christian Nade who came off the bench to set up both goals last time around and Dimitris Froxylias who scored The Sons’ winner.

The match will be refereed by Don Robertson, who is visiting Glebe Park for the first time since City’s Championship Play-Off Semi Final first leg tie against Raith Rovers in May. He will be assisted by Ralph Gordon and Ryan Lee.

Supporters of both teams are reminded that free access to The City Club is available to over-18s from 1pm through to kick-off – perhaps with a visit to the newly re-located Supporters Club Shop en route.

Copies of Brechin City’s official Matchday Magazine “A View from the Hedge” will be available for sale prior to the kick-off for only £2. Look out too for the Supporters Club 50:50 Draw Tickets and Whisky Raffle.

The match and matchball is being sponsored by Brechin Bowling Club, and the Club is grateful for their sustained support. A particular welcome goes out to Brian Livie and his guests who join us in the Platinum Lounge as well as Ian Noble and his running friends who join us in The City Club having travelled from Littledown Harriers Running Club in Bournemouth who have travelled north to take in the game.
