Brechin City v Queen of the South: Match Preview - By Grant Hood

With every team in The Ladbrokes Championship having now faced each other, City face opening day opposition in the form of Queen of the South at Glebe Park still searching for that elusive first victory of the season.

A long awaited return to Scotland’s second tier saw City make the long journey to Dumfries in early August only to be on the wrong end of a disappointing 4-1 scoreline, with a hugely disappointing performance – albeit going into the game with several key suspensions carried forward from the previous season.

The Doonhamers do the travelling this time, and arrive at The Glebe without a league win since late August, a run which has seen 3 draws and 2 losses.

The squad news coming out of the City camp focuses upon the renewed availability of Chris O’Neil who has been out since picking up an injury in the Dunfermline game 4 weeks ago. Andy Jackson remains injured and out of contention and is now joined on the sidelines by central defender Ryan McGeever who also faces a lengthy period of recovery following his injury and subsequent substitution in the defeat to Morton last weekend. Euan Smith continues to train and may well feature on the bench. Everyone else is fit and ‘raring to play’, whilst Queen of the South Manager Gary Naysmith reports likely absences for Dan Carmichael and St Johnstone loanee Chris Kane.

Although The Platinum Lounge is fully booked, supporters of both sides are reminded that free access to The City Club is available to over-18s from 1pm through until kick-off – perhaps with a visit to the newly re-located Supporters Club shop en route. Supporters can enjoy live coverage of the Betfred Cup Semi Final between Celtic and Hibernian pre-match followed by live BT Sport coverage of Southampton v West Bromwich Albion from the English Premier League at 5.30pm.

Copies of Brechin City’s official Matchday Magazine “A View from the Hedge” will be available for sale prior to the kick-off for only £2, and look out for a quite unique Halloween greeting from The Club. Supporters Club 50:50 draw tickets and the Whisky Raffle will also take place and generate lucky winners for each.

The Boardroom guest party will be led by Heather Whatley and the matchball has been sponsored (not for the first time this season) by Steelfingers - and The Management Committee would like to thank all concerned for their support.

The match will be refereed by Craig Charleston, who is taking charge of his first City game since a 2-1 victory over Peterhead in September of last year. He will be assisted by Alasdair Ross and Euan Birch.

Parents who submitted applications for the Free Season Tickets for Schoolchildren promotion are reminded that this will be the last opportunity to uplift the tickets.
