AGM Summary 12th July 2017 - By Brechin City FC

BCFC AGM

The Club held its 111th Annual General Meeting last night in front of around 60 season ticket holders in the Lounge at Glebe Park. Club Office Bearers of Chairman Ken Ferguson, Secretary Gus Fairlie & Treasurer Martin Smith presented their reports on the season past.

Chairman Ken Ferguson reflected on the financial struggle the Club had to get through the season, too then feel the excitement and relief of winning promotion to the Championship. Due praise was heaped on Manager Darren Dods, Lee, Steve and the players for bringing such remarkable success to the Club. Ken confirmed that whilst the Club will support the Manager with a good player’s budget to allow him to compete in the Championship we do not plan to spend big to try and keep up with the full time teams, instead electing to repair some of the financial damage incurred over the past two seasons.

Secretary Gus Fairlie provided the usual statistical account of the season past whilst adding his own personal thoughts on the season, summing up with how proud he was to serve the Club and hoped the community felt the same about their team.

Treasurer Martin Smith reported on the deficit incurred in what was an extremely financially challenging season with the Club suffering a significant £40k plus loss that was wholly attributed to wages and bonuses (incl promotion bonuses) and lack of progress in the Cups. The projections for 2017/18 however look much brighter as a direct result of achieving promotion.

Grant Hood presented a commercial report thanking everyone who has supported the Club in one way or another throughout the season. The new season commercial flyer is now available from the Club and can be viewed or downloaded from the website. Grant added further detail to the launch of the new ‘Platinum Lounge’ and provided further insight into the use of the lounge which will now be known as ‘The City Club’. Full details of which for the new season will be published on the website and social media. Grant acknowledged the magnificent commitment the Club has received from Bruce & Helen Stott of Delson who after 5 years of support are now stepping down as main shirt sponsor. Two local businesses, Plumbers James Lammond and Wealth Management & Mortgage Advisers Ferguson Oliver have kindly taken on the shirt sponsorship as co-sponsors. Grant thanked George & Scott McMillan and Mike & Ken Ferguson for coming forward and adding their support for the new season.

Manager Darren Dods provided his assessment of the past season and outlined his thoughts for the path ahead as we try and establish ourselves as a Championship team. Darren took questions from the members before accepting their appreciation of the team’s efforts last season.

One of the significant moments of the evening was the reshuffle of the committee roles. Martin Smith stepped down as Scottish Football’s longest serving Club Treasurer with Secretary Gus Fairlie taking on the role of Finance Director. Martin will stay on the committee and continue to add experience to a number of Club duties. As a result of this change Grant Hood will take over as Club Secretary over a transitional period. The Chairman presented Martin with a memento from the Club to acknowledge the exemplary service he has provided for 33 years as Club Treasurer.

The evening was wrapped up with Chairman Ken Ferguson stating that patience will be required to see us through the season. Next season will undoubtedly be a bumpy ride and everyone will have to show patience and support for the Manager, Coaches and players as we learn to adapt to the higher standard of football and all the challenges that come with Championship football.
