Brechin City - Stenhousemuir Match Preview

Brechin City will go into tomorrow's League One fixture against Stenhousemuir looking to pick up their first points of 2017. City's last victory was on Christmas Eve when they deservedly took maximum points away to Alloa but since that time they have conceded five goals and scored none, losing in the process by single goal margins to Peterhead and Albion Rovers whilst last Saturday they went down to a 3-0 defeat at league leaders Livingston. Having said that, City are in a pretty strong position in the league table just a couple of points behind third-placed Airdrieonians with second placed Alloa just a further point ahead. Conversely though, the team's immediately below them, East Fife and Queens Park are just a point adrift with Albion Rovers and Peterhead three points behind which just goes to show how tough, close and competitive the league is becoming.

City's injury problems during this period have been well documented of course but the good news is that manager Darren Dods looks like being able to field a much more familiar side against Brown Ferguson's team with Andy Jackson, James Dale and Darren McCormack all fully fit while Alan Trouten will make a welcome return from his one-match suspension. Willie Dyer who missed last Saturday's trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena because of an achilles injury has improved this week but is rated at only 50/50 by the manager while Euan Smith is of course unfortunately out for the rest of this season.

The Warriors were completely stranded at the foot of the League One table in the early part of the season but they have greatly improved since then and now sit in second-bottom spot four points ahead of basement club Stranraer and just seven points behind City. The two previous encounters between the sides this season have both resulted in City victories. In the opening league match of the campaign way back at the beginning of August, a first-half Alan Trouten goal gave City an early advantage and although Fraser Kerr equalised for the visitors mid-way through the second-half a goal from Ross Caldwell eleven minutes from the end wrapped up a home victory and inthe corresponding fixture at Ochilview in October a goal in the 56th minute from Mark Gilhaney gave the hosts the advantage but goals from Ally Love, Paul McLean and Darren McCormack netted the visitors a comfortable win.
