Albion Rovers - Brechin City Match Preview

Brechin City will travel through to Coatbridge tomorrow somewhat heartened by their performance against Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night.

Despite the 0-0 score-line, City and the Warriors served up an entertaining ninety minutes and from City's point of view the display from the players was a big improvement from the preceding Saturday when they went down 2-0 at Stranraer. Manager Darren Dods asked for a reaction from his players after the disappointment of that defeat and he was pleased with the response on Tuesday night albeit that three points would have been far more welcome than one given the club's current league position.

The City manager will enter tomorrow's match without the services of Paul McLean and Darren McCormack as well as long-term injury victim Ross Perry. It is hoped that Paul will be available for next Saturday's home encounter against Cowdenbeath while Darren's return to action looks like being a couple of weeks away at least after he pulled a hamstring at Ochilview. The likelihood is that the manager will fill the breach in central defence alongside new signing Lucas Culjac who impressed on his debut on Tuesday night. Otherwise, any other changes to the team look like being minimal.

The sides have met in a couple of occasions this season with Darren Young's men coming out on top both times. In the first match between the sides at Cliftonhill in late August, Ross Dunlop grabbed the opener for the host in the 23rd minute but City hit back straight away with Craig Johnston converting from the penalty-spot. However, Rovers restored their advantage seven minutes later when John Gemmell netted and a further goal a minute into the second-half from Andy Barrowman wrapped up the points for the home side. In a closely fought encounter at the Glebe a couple of months later a Paul Willis goal for the visitors after 24 minutes was enough to secure Rovers all three points.

Tomorrow afternoon's referee is Gavin Ross who has been in charge of just one City game this season, the 2-0 home victory over Cowdenbeath on 26th September.
