Ayr United - Brechin City Match Preview - By John Hoey

Ayr United v Brechin City - Scottish League Cup
Match Preview

Brechin City will embark on the long journey south-west tomorrow hoping to bounce right back from the disappointment of their Petrofac Cup exit at the hands of Peterhead last Saturday.

On the positive front, manager Darren Dods will welcome back Gary Fusco to the squad after work commitments prevented the experienced midfielder from lining up against the Blue Toon but the manager has injury concerns over a couple of players and it will therefore be a last-minute decision as to what his opening line-up will be. Darren has indicated that he was looking to freshen up things in any event notwithstanding any injury concerns so it will certainly be a changed line-up that takes the field against the Honest Men. In addition there are hopes that a further signing may be made before tomorrow's match which would bring the squad up to seventeen players.

Ayr manager Ian McCall has made sweeping changes during the close-season with former City favourites Alan Trouten and Gerry McLauchlan joining the club as well as Greg Fleming (Stenhousemuir), Ross Caldwell (Morton), Ross Docherty (Airdrieonians), Paddy Boyle (Airdrieonians), Jamie Adams (Wigtown and Bladenoch) and Kieran Woods (Cumnock)

Defender Peter Murphy and midfielder Adams are ruled out through injury while new loan signing Craig Moore is suspended. Striker Alan Forrest trained last week but is unlikely to be risked from the start though it's likely he'll find a place on the bench.

City have been unbeaten in their last five visits to Somerset Park with the last encounter there between the sides ending in a 2-2 draw. Andy Jackson had fired City ahead but Brian Gilmour equalised for the hosts who then grabbed the lead with a Jon-Paul McGovern penalty before a Paul McLean goal fifteen minutes from the end earned City a draw. An interesting statistic is that it's the first League Cup meeting between the sides for exactly fifty years with Ayr winning that first round tie at Glebe Park by 1-0.

The referee tomorrow is Euan Anderson assisted by Ivan Stankovic and Chris McTiernan and Admission Prices are £10 and £5 Concessions.

Brechin City will be running a bus to this match which will depart from St Ninians Square at 10.00am. Please contact Steven Stewart on 07547552209 if you wish to reserve a seat.
