CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT
Brechin City confirms that Manager, Ray McKinnon, has left the Club to take up a full time managerial position with Championship side Raith Rovers.
Chairman Ken Ferguson said, ‘It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows him that Ray would eventually appear on the radar of the bigger Clubs, given the success he has brought to Brechin City and the pride and professionalism he has demonstrated in the job. Much as we would wish to have had the opportunity to have another attempt at promotion to the Championship with Ray at the helm, we find we cannot compete with the financial resources of the teams in the higher division and, of course, we are very pleased to see Ray advance his career by taking this step up the footballing ladder. Ray finished the season as the third longest serving manager in Scotland and helped the Club maintain a Division One League position for the 10th consecutive season, picking up numerous Manager of the Month Awards along the way. We thank him for his time and efforts and wish him every success in his new position.
‘The Club will now concentrate on building a squad for next season, a task made that bit less daunting by having a strong nucleus of players - Andy Jackson, Graeme Smith, Paul McLean, Darren McCormack, Gary Fusco and Craig Molloy - already signed on with further negotiations ongoing.
‘We also wish to thank the players who have moved on to other clubs: Bobby Barr, Alan Trouten and Colin Hamilton have all been offered and accepted terms with which we could not compete financially and which meant, in most cases, playing at a higher level. We wish to thank Bobby, Trouts and Hammy for their contribution to last season’s efforts and extend our best wishes for their future careers.’
