Stenhousemuir - Brechin City Match Preview
Brechin City will travel to Ochilview tomorrow needing just one point to clinch their place in the Scottish Championship play-offs but everyone at the club knows that it will a far from easy task against a side who are battling hard for their League One survival.
City will be buoyed by their 3-0 victory over Dunfermline at the Glebe last Saturday and the players will be going into the match determined to make it a four successive victories after wins against Dunfermline, Stirling Albion and Morton.
Gerry McLauchlan remains on the injured list and it seems odds on that manager Ray McKinnon will play the same side that defeated the Pars.
City have a 100% record against the Warriors this season but they know that they face a really formidable challenge against a side who ran league leaders Stranraer extremely close at Stair Park last Saturday, finally going down by the odd goal in five.
In the first league encounter at the Glebe on 16th August, an Alan Trouten goal two minutes before half-time was enough to ensure three points and in the Scottish Cup encounter at Ochilview at the beginning of November, two second-half goals from Kyle McAusland and Bobby Barr from the penalty-spot put City in the hat for the following round after the hosts had grabbed a first-half advantage with a Darren McCormack own-goal. City again proved victorious at Ochilview the following month when a Trouten penalty and a goal right at the death from substitute Robert Thomson wrapped up three points and in the last league encounter between the sides, played at the Glebe on the last day of February goals from Andy Jackson and Paul McLean were just enough to secure a City victory after Colin MacMenamin had fired Stenny into an early lead.
Tomorrow's referee will be Nick Walsh who has been in charge of two City fixtures this season, the 5-0 victory against Stirling Albion at Forthbank on13th September and the 2-0 win against tomorrow's opponents at Ochilview in mid December.
The Brechin City Supporters Club will be running a bus to this game which will depart from St Ninians Square at 10.30am. Steven Stewart (07547552209) is the man to contact if you wish to reserve a seat.
