Brechin City - Dumbarton Match Preview

Scottish League Cup - 1st Round

Brechin City will be hoping to make it two Championship scalps on the trot when Dumbarton come calling at Glebe Park in the first round of the Scottish League Cup.

City have no injury worries following their 3-1 extra-time victory over Cowdenbeath in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup last Saturday with Robert Thomson, Alan Trouten and Ryan Ferguson all on the mark in that match which saw City safely through to a home tie against League One new boys Peterhead in the next round.

City coach Darren Taylor expects that tomorrow's match will be extremely tough.

" Dumbarton have a lot of very good, experienced players and we know that they will be extremely difficult opponents."

" We won't be reading anything in to their Petrofac Cup exit at Stranraer and they will come here tomorrow determined to get back on the rails."

" However, the spirit amongst our lads at training this week has been superb and everyone is looking forward to our first home competitive match of the season and we'll hopefully be able to send our supporters away in a happy frame of mind."

Sons boss Ian Murray will have to do without the services of goalkeeper Jamie Ewings and defender Mark McLaughlin but apart from those two players, everyone else is fit.

Dumbarton went down to a shock 3-2 defeat from Stranraer in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup with goals from Jordan Kirkpatrick and Mark Gilhaney giving them what appeared to be a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead, but they were stunned when a brace from Frank McKeown brought the Blues right back into the game and an injury-time winner from Sean Winter sealed the win.

The last match between tomorrow's opponents took place at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on 5th May 2012, in the last match of the 2011/12 season and City unfortunately went down by 4-2 in that game.

Charlie King volleyed home a David McClune cross in the 53rd minute to give his side the lead but Craig Dargo fired home the equaliser six minutes later and shortly afterwards the same player headed his side into the lead. Dargo completed his hat-trick 18 minutes from time before Craig Molloy pulled a goal back for City two minutes from time before Glen Thomson completed the scoring for Dumbarton deep into injury-time.

The City line-up that day was - Scott, Webster, Hodge, Buist, Moyes, Fusco, McKenzie, Molloy, Lister, King, McKenna - Subs - Carcary, McClune, Crawford, Nelson.

The referee tomorrow is Kevin Clancy.

Mr Clancy last refereed a City match on 12th January 2013 in the 2-2 draw at East Fife.
