Robert Delighted With Win At Cowden - By John Hoey

Robert Thomson hit home Brechin's equalising goal in the 3-1 victory at Cowdenbeath and the ex Dundee United and Dunfermline front man admitted after the game that he was delighted to hit the target in the first game of the season and with his first touch of the ball.

" Andy Jackson played a great pass down the left and I was just concentrating on pushing forward and hitting the target," said Robert.

" It was great to score and no more than we deserved because I thought that we were the better team in the second-half. Their goalkeeper should have perhaps done a bit better for my goal but from our point of view it brought us right back into the game at a vital time."

" The manager told me before I went on to work really hard and put pressure on the Cowdenbeath defence but I honestly didn't expect to be on the score-sheet so soon."

" It was obviously a great result for us to go to a team that are a division above us and win so convincingly but we won't get carried away with one good result. We face another very tough test this Saturday when we play Dumbarton in the first round of the League Cup and we know that it will be a difficult encounter but we can approach the game with confidence after our performance at Central Park.

" From a personal point of view, I'm really enjoying my football at the moment and delighted to be part of the set-up at Glebe Park. The new players who came in during the close-season - Jamie McCormack, Colin Hamilton, Darren McCormack and Callum Tapping all did really well yesterday and will obviously add quality to the team for the season ahead."

" However, as I said, we won't be getting carried away after one result. We'll continue to work hard and prepare properly for every game and see where it takes us."
