Club Statement - By Brechin City FC

There is no doubting the fact that The Club has had to deal with a very difficult season. Having been installed as pre season title favourites it is understandable that everyone feels we have performed well below what was expected of us. Each team in the league was capable of beating one another and sadly the high expectations were not fulfilled.

Of course the end of a season closes a chapter in the Club’s history and we must now prepare ourselves for the start of a new chapter. Much has been said about our Manager’s position at the Club, however No new contracts have been negotiated and, after much analysis and considered discussion, it is the committee’s view that we continue the rolling contract to work with our management team of Jim Weir and Kevin McGowne to improve the squad to build again for the new season. All concerned are under no illusions that football is a performance driven game and that improvement is required immediately if we are to maintain our ambitions to compete at the top end of the part time game in Scotland.

It is inevitable that personnel will come and go when change is required. The hardest decision a Manager has to make is to let players go, especially when a player such as Charlie King has given such excellent service to the Club for the past 11 years. We are all extremely grateful to Charlie for his dedication to Brechin City, for all the support he has provided to local community groups and basically to everyone who knew him. The Club wishes to thank all of the players who now move on with our best wishes. Our thanks to the players loaned from Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle respectively, Rory Mackenzie and Johnny Lindsay, good luck with your future careers. Emotions inevitably run high at times like these, however, we ask for cool heads reflecting on the whole picture.

The re-building process has already started for next season with the nucleus of a strong squad taking shape. Too all of our supporters, and as fans ourselves, we assure you that we shall do all we can to ensure we are competing at the right end of the table next term.
