Match Report - By John Hoey

Stenhousemuir 1 Brechin City 3

Brechin City moved back to the top of the Ladbrokes League One table after a 3-1 victory over basement side Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.

City's victory sets them up nicely for next Saturday's top of the table clash against Livingston who defeated Alloa Athletic by 3-1. It was a deserved win for Darren Dod's men who had to come from behind to secure all three points. Despite being reduced to ten men shortly before half-time when winger Willis Furtado was shown the red card for a late challenge on Euan Smith, the Warriors nevertheless grabbed the opening goal eleven minutes into the second-half when Mark Gilhaney slotted the ball into the top corner of the net but City fought back with two goals in two minutes from Ally Love and Paul McLean with a Darren McCormack header wrapping up victory six minutes from the end.

City made one change from the side that lost 1-0 against Alloa the previous Saturday with Darren McCormack replacing Elliot Ford. City started the game with Paul McLean moving to the right-back position with McCormack slotting in alongside Euan Smith and Dougie Hill in central defence.

The first opportunity fell to the Warriors after seven minutes when they were awarded a free-kick after a Willie Dyer challenge on former City full-back Jamie McCormack but Furtado's shot lacked power and Graeme Smith gathered easily.

City's first chance came after 15 minutes when Alan Trouten played a good pass wide on the right to Ally Love who beat his man and crossed into the box for the waiting 'Trouts' who headed the ball narrowly over the bar.

Stenny then hit back and came close to grabbing the opening goal in the 23rd minute when Furtado made ground on the left and then played a good ball across the face of the penalty-box for Gilhaney who struck it first-time but Smith made a point-blank save with McCormack booting the ball clear for a corner.

Both sides then pressed forward without creating anything clear-cut in front of goal but the hosts were dealt a body-blow in the 35th minute when they were reduced to ten men after Furtado was red carded after appearing to aim a kick at Euan Smith with the City defender being booked, presumably for retaliation.

City started the second-half on the offensive and a Hill header from a Love corner was headed off the line within the first couple of minutes. However, they were shocked shortly afterwards when the ten-man Warriors grabbed the lead.

Gilhaney played a short pass from a corner on the left to Vincent Berry who played it back to the winger who then took a couple of steps before fighting the ball into the top corner of the net.

This spurred the visitors into a reaction and they levelled the match four minutes later.

A loose pass from Stenny number 4 Ross Meechan was pounced upon by Jackson who pushed forward into the penalty-box before playing a perfect pass to Love who held off a challenge from Fraser Kerr before steering the ball past Colin McCabe in the home goal and 'Jacko' was the provider again just a couple of minutes later when he picked up a pass from Dyer wide on the left and pushed forward to the bye-line before crossing into the box for McLean who slotted the ball past McCabe.

The visitors were forcing the pace now and a Love drive from 20 yards was spilled by McCabe before being cleared by the home defence.

City kept pushing forward and they're wrapped up victory with a third and final goal with just six minutes remaining when substitute Finn Graham swung over an inch perfect corner into the home penalty-box with Darren McCormack rising above the Warriors defence to power a header past McCabe.
